Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities determined he posed a definite escape threat while under house arrest.

The former head of state was convicted of plotting a military coup in the ninth month and handed more than 27 years in jail, but he continued under confinement pending legal challenges.

Top Judicial Official Alexandre de Moraes said the action to imprison the 70-year-old politician was a precautionary step after recent developments were revealed.

This encompassed seeking to disable his tracking device and a invitation to a demonstration that could "allow for a possible escape.

Legal Document Reveals Flight Fears

In a paperwork permitting the arrest, the magistrate said information from the unit overseeing the former president's confinement suggested the one-time head of state's plan to remove the tracking monitor to ensure success in his escape.

This, it said, would be "facilitated by the confusion caused by the demonstration called by his child.

His offspring, Flávio Bolsonaro, who serves as a senator, called for a assembly of his supporters near Bolsonaro's home to take place on the weekend.

The senator wrote on digital networks on the previous day: Will you battle for your country, or see it all from your phone there on your couch? I call on you to struggle with us."

He said the demonstration would be so backers could offer prayers for his physical condition and for the reestablishment of democratic governance in our country."

Foreign Shelter Risks

Part of the judge's determination was the chance of Bolsonaro's transfer to embassies near the home, considering that the investigations revealed a record of arranging to request asylum through a diplomatic representation", a declaration said.

The court filing emphasizes that the American diplomatic mission in the capital, Brazil's capital, is positioned around approximately 13 kilometers from Bolsonaro's home.

Global Responses

His judicial problems have generated frustration from fellow populist conservative United States President Donald Trump, causing him to implement a fifty percent tax on Brazilian product imports.

Bolsonaro is being held in a federal law enforcement building in Brasilia and will undergo a detention review on the following day.

Recent Legal Requests

It was only on last Friday that the his legal team asked the High Court to authorize him to fulfill his full incarceration period under house arrest, with digital surveillance.

They also requested that Bolsonaro be allowed to exit his dwelling for healthcare, saying he required regular treatment for respiratory ailments and other illnesses.

Details of Guilty Verdict

The former president was convicted of orchestrating a scheme aimed at retaining his authority after he lost the national vote to his left-wing rival, Lula.

High Court judges said that he had knowledge of a plot which involved plans to murder his opponent and his vice-presidential running mate, Alckmin, and to arrest and execute Justice Moraes - the High Court judge who has been overseeing Bolsonaro's trial.

The plot was thwarted because it failed to get the support of the armed forces officials. Lula was inaugurated without problem on 1 January 2023.

But a following week, on 8 January, thousands of his followers attacked and damaged official structures in the capital, Brasília.

The security forces stepped in and around approximately 1,500 persons were arrested.

The magistrates found that the protesters had been provoked by Bolsonaro whose plan, they said, was for the national armed forces to step in, bring back stability and reinstate his authority.

At the moment, Bolsonaro's lawyers called the decades-long sentence extremely harsh.

He was also banned from seeking elected position until 2060 - eight years after the conclusion of his imprisonment.

The former president called the court case a political persecution and said it was intended to stop him running in the 2026 presidential election.
